The Cable Center: Transformed into an evening of jazz, culinary dining, and amazing people accomplishing amazing things!
Four years ago, Jazzed experienced its first heartbeat of life. Jazzed is the only fundraising event of the year for Inner City Health Center (ICHC). Jazzed was and is the brainchild of Hazel Miller. Hazel has been a longtime supporter, friend, and patient of Inner City Health Center.
Four years ago she approached ICHC’s CEO, Kraig Burleson, with a heart’s desire to give back for all the great care she’s received over the years. So…Jazzed was born! Hazel recruits and coordinates all the great jazz entertainers.
On October 16 at The Cable Center, Hazel Miller will again entertain and inspire. She’s already recruited Chris Daniels to join her.
Inner City Health Center provides high quality, full-scale medical and dental services for the uninsured, underinsured, and underserved in our community. Patients come from all locations along the Front Range. Despite the US government’s attempt to get all Americans insured, there are still many uninsured in our community. The Affordable Care Act also made Medicaid (and CHP+) more accessible to many—but once covered, these patients cannot find providers in the private sector who will accept patients with this kind of coverage.
Care is integrated between the medical and dental sides of the clinic, ensuring patients get all the treatment they need to get and stay healthy.
Inner City Health Center offers prenatal, pediatrics, women’s and men’s health, and dental services for all ages.
ICHC serves unique populations of underserved patients: veterans, members of refugee communities, etc. Those without insurance pay on a sliding scale basis based on federal poverty ratings as well as the family’s income and size. Patient care coordinators on the medical and dental sides of ICHC work carefully with each patient and his/her family to strategize the treatment needs and an affordable payment plan.
Inner City Health Center was founded 32 years ago. From sharing a space with a barbershop in Five Points, today Inner City Health has 18 medical treatment rooms, 6 dental chairs, and individual/couples/family counseling space in a large state-of-the-art facility at 3800 York. ICHC is a “safety net” clinic—not a walk-in, street clinic—treating over 7000 patients yearly, for approximately 23,000 patient visits. One Wednesday, which some call “baby day,” the prenatal program saw 26 prenatal patients!
ICHC utilizes a variety of volunteers—MDs, RNs, MAs, LPNs, dentists, dental hygienists, and a variety of specialists from ultrasound technicians to oral surgeons.
This keeps the patient payments low. ICHC must raise funds to cover the financial gap between what a patient pays, what Medicaid or CHP+ reimburses, and what the VA reimburses and the cost of services provided. We also have an enrollment specialist at the clinic who daily helps patients navigate the challenging course to acquiring Medicaid/CHP+ coverage.
Jazzed 2015 will feature great music and dancing, delectable hors d’oeuvres provided by area chefs, and wine, beer, and non-spirited beverages. There will be a lively silent auction and a “jazzy” live auction led by Modern Gladiator’s Martin Alvarez. Popular sports cartoonist Drew Litton will draw a cartoon at Jazzed to be auctioned as well. Actual patients will share their testimonies that night, telling of how ICHC services literally saved their lives.
Tickets, affordably priced at $50/guest, are available online at the Inner City Health Center website: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/ichcjazzed.
